Allen C. Guelzo Named 2022-23 Louise Lehrman Distinguished Fellow at the New-York Historical Society

The James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions is pleased to announce that Dr. Allen C. Guelzo, Director of the Madison Program’s Initiative on Politics and Statesmanship, has been appointed as the 2022-23 Louise Lehrman Distinguished Fellow at the New-York Historical Society. As the Louise Lehrman Distinguished Fellow, Guelzo will deliver a series of three public lectures at the New-York Historical Society. These lectures will be centered around the theme of Abraham Lincoln and Democracy.

Guelzo is the author of numerous prize-winning studies of Lincoln and the American Civil War Era, including Abraham Lincoln: Redeemer President (1999), Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation: The End of Slavery in America (2004), and Gettysburg: The Last Invasion, which was a New York Times best-seller in 2013. His most recent book is Robert E. Lee: A Life (2021), which was named one of the The Wall Street Journal's 10 Best Books of 2021. Guelzo is also the Senior Research Scholar in the Council of the Humanities at Princeton University, where he teaches a variety of courses and seminars on the history and legacy of Abraham Lincoln.
