Joe Biden has announced his intention to nominate Cecilia Rouse, Dean of Princeton’s School of Public Affairs and a Faculty Associate of the James Madison Program, to chair the President’s Council of Economic Advisers. Robert P. George, Director of the Madison Program, said: “I warmly congratulate Dean Rouse. She is a good friend, a distinguished scholar, and someone who has stood up boldly for the importance of freedom of speech and viewpoint diversity on our campus.“ In an article in the Princeton Alumni Weekly in 2017, Dean Rouse wrote:  “Diversity of opinion punctures the echo chamber. Working with someone who thinks differently requires a reexamination of one’s own assumptions and forces a deep dive into why people can come to different conclusions when presented with the same set of facts.”

Noting that Dean Rouse has previously served as a member of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers as well as the National Economic Council, Professor George added, “Ceci is someone who believes that sound decision-making requires listening to, and thoughtfully considering, different points of view. This conviction has served her well in academia and in her distinguished past public service. It will continue to serve her well.”
