Princeton Offers Professor George’s Signature Civil Liberties Course Online

Beginning September 13, 2018, McCormick Professor of Jurisprudence and James Madison Program Director Robert P. George’s Civil Liberties course at Princeton University will be available online through This 7-week MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) will explore the moral basis of controversial claims of civil rights and liberties by carefully considering the evidence and reasons presented by notable thinkers and in groundbreaking Supreme Court opinions. The course will examine issues of slavery, segregation, abortion, campaign finance, free speech, religion, affirmative action, and marriage. Discussion will be guided by reading thinkers like John Locke, John Stuart Mill, Friedrich Hayek, and Martin Luther King Jr., as well as study of important Supreme Court opinions.
