Brad Birzer, Professor of History, Russell Amos Kirk Chair in American Studies, Hillsdale College

Birzer will address the meaning of the frontier in American history, giving examples from Columbus through the 19th century. In particular, he will examine the meaning of the Northwest Ordinance, as well as other moments in the history of expansion.
Bradley J. Birzer is the Russell Amos Kirk Chair in American Studies and Professor of History, Hillsdale College.  The author of several biographies—on Charles Carroll of Carrollton, Andrew Jackson, Christopher Dawson, J.R.R. Tolkien, and Russell Kirk—Birzer teaches courses on the American frontier, the American Revolution, Jacksonian America, and the American Civil War.  He is co-founder and senior contributor at The Imaginative Conservative.
