Mark P. Lagon is President of Freedom House, an independent watchdog organization dedicated to the expansion of freedom around the world.  From 2010 through 2014, he was the Professor in the Practice of International Affairs and Chair for Global Politics and Security at Georgetown University’s Master of Science in Foreign Service Program, as well as Adjunct Senior Fellow for Human Rights at the Council on Foreign Relations.   He was previously Executive Director and CEO of the leading anti-human trafficking nonprofit, Polaris.  From 2007 to 2009, he served at the State Department as U.S. Ambassador at Large, directing the Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons. Earlier, he was Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of International Organization Affairs, with responsibility for human rights, humanitarian issues and United Nations reform. He is the author of numerous articles on international affairs, and co-editor of Human Dignity and the Future of Global Institutions (Georgetown University Press). Dr. Lagon received a Ph.D. in Government from Georgetown and an A.B. from Harvard University.

Anthony Clark Arend is Professor of Government and Foreign Service at Georgetown University and Director of the Master of Science in Foreign Service Program (MSFS). Prior to Georgetown, he was a Senior Fellow at the Center for National Security Law at the University of Virginia School of Law. He specializes in international and national security law, especially the law relating to the use of military force and human rights law. He has published seven books, including  Human Dignity and the Future of Global Institutions (co-editor and contributor); Legal Rules and International Society  (author); International Rules: Approaches from International Law and International Relations (co-editor and contributor); and International Law and the Use of Force: Beyond the United Nations Charter Paradigm (co-author). He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.  Dr. Arend received a Ph.D. and an M.A. in Foreign Affairs from the Woodrow Wilson Department of Government and Foreign Affairs of the University of Virginia, and a B.S.F.S from Georgetown University.
